From 1 January 2026, the use of the new roadside emergency signalling system, the V16 light, becomes mandatory. This new format will replace the traditional emergency triangles.
What is the V16 light?
It is a luminous emergency signalling device that is placed on the roof of the vehicle, emitting a flashing light visible in all directions (360º) and at long distances.
The main objective of the DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) is to improve road safety, especially in situations of breakdown or accident, as in recent years there has been an increase in traffic accidents when drivers get out of the vehicle to colour the triangles.
In this way, it saves time, visibility and safety.
